Making the decision to leave the toxic people and habits in our lives behind can happen in an instant. Deciding to pursue something else can happen in an instant. It really is a one-step program.
Sometimes, though, it helps so much to do exercises to remind ourselves; to psych and pump ourselves up; to help us stay committed; and habitually walk our new chosen path!
Throughout my life, especially when faced with a new (and frightening experience), I always needed reassurance and permission that I could do it, that things would be okay, that I was allowed to and going to succeed.
Of course, kind words of encouragement and positive feedback are wonderful! They are something that never go out of style!
It's not that we outgrow words of affirmation and love from others; it's outgrowing the NEED for validation and permission *from others* to be our best and seek out manifestation of our dreams!
A scene from the Harry Potter series that always stuck in my mind was the part where Harry Potter wants to join his friends in leaving the school of Hogwarts on the weekends to go into the town of Hogsmeade. Not only would it be alot of fun, but it would also be a chance for him to experience being out in the wizarding world (which he had been severely limited in doing for most of his life). It would also allow him to find out more information to help solve some major mysteries/upheavals happening in the school.
However, the catch is that Harry needs his guardian to sign a permission slip to allow him to leave campus. His aunt and uncle refuse as they hate him (and anything magical in general), and his godfather is in hiding and unavailable (until the end of the book).
Like anything else we remember, it stuck with me because there was alot of strong emotion attached with Harry's predicament. I felt for him because I felt trapped as well. No one would sign my permission slip for the places in life that I wanted to go, the things that I truly wanted to do, the love I wanted to receive, and the person I wanted to be allowed to express and be.
In the end, I had to write my own permission slip.
You can give yourself permission at ANY MOMENT, you don't NEED to do this, BUT, I found it alot of fun! It's a physical reminder to enjoy looking at...and really useful in moments of hesitation when wanting that comfort of confirmation. I hope that you enjoy this and feel it helps you as well :)
1.) Create your own crest/heraldry: Draw or trace or print out an escutcheon, and break it into 4 or 6 parts. Draw symbols for the 4 or 6 things that you really want in your life, things that already symbolize you and things that you hope to bring to fruition. Create your own "Hogwarts", your own school of life. Give yourself a banner to represent you. Be proud to stand behind it! You are earning points everyday for the House of YOU.
2.) Word your permission. You can leave it open-ended and pin it to you vision board or to your mirror or to your car visor. Or, you can fill in your own personal manifesto and get really specific with the things that you have been hoping come into your life.
I personally like leaving the permission open for whatever unique situations life presents me with daily, but I also love any excuse to re-copy my goals and dreams, so I do both!
It makes us feel amazing when we picture ourselves living the lives we want, and remember that FEELING GOOD IS OUR PRIMARY JOB. Feeling good is our open-ended manifesto:
TODAY AND ALWAYS, I GIVE MYSELF PERMISSION TO REACH FOR AND ATTAIN WHAT I WANT AT THIS MOMENT. IT FLOWS TO ME EASILY AND BEAUTIFULLY, AND THE HAPPIER I AM, THE FASTER AND MORE PERFECTLY IT ARRIVES.
3.) Print, Date, and Sign your name to make it official. Keep it where you can see it. Look at it when you need reassurance or feel blocked or stymied. It is a living document! Revise and add to as needed :)
If you want an even more in-depth (2 weeks in-depth!) guidance on how to make your permission form while making it into an adventure, I have created a course just for you! I love you. We're all in this together.
I am SO PROUD of you!
